Tuscaloosa offers a downtown area shopping district, three attractive shopping malls, 28 shopping centers, and an array of antique stores and charming specialty shops. Nearby Northport offers a newly renovated downtown shopping area featuring art, antiques, and specialty clothing shops. If you are a student who truly enjoys shopping, Tuscaloosa is for you. Even on a tight budget, you can find some great bargains in T-town!


Malls

Most of Tuscaloosa's shopping centers are located along McFarland Blvd. (or US 82). They include some very well known stores. The largest shopping mall in West Alabama is the University Mall, which hosts Sears, JCPenney, Parisian, and more than 75 smaller stores. This is the largest shopping mall in West Alabama.

The McFarland Mall is located near the McFarland exit off I-20/59. It includes Books-A-Million, TJ Maxx, Goody's, Dillard's, and several smaller stores.

Other strip malls along McFarland house many other recognizable and "hip" stores including Circuit City, Office Max, Old Navy, The Gap, and Stein Mart. The Tuscaloosa Galleria features about 20 small, upscale specialty shops. Tuscaloosa is home to two 24-hour Wal-Mart Supercenters, Sam's Club, KMart, and SuperTarget. These stores will cover all of the necessities. Other grocery alternatives include the Southeastern standards Publix, Bruno's, FoodMax, Winn Dixie and Food World. If you are seeking outlets you don't have to go very far. Now open in Bessemer, next to Alabama's Adventure (theme park), is WaterMark Place, which has about 30 outlet shops including Polo Ralph Lauren, Duckhead, and Banana Republic.

Birmingham is fast-becoming a paradise for moderately upscale shopping. The Riverchase Galleria is arguably the most attractive mall in the South, as well as one of the largest, with more than 200 stores and 30 eateries. Not far is the Summit, an eclectic mix of upscale shops and restaurants such as Barnes & Noble Book Sellers, California Pizza Kitchen, Abercrombie & Fitch, Eddie Bauer, Pottery Barn and the all-stadium seating Cinema 16. Brookwood Village is a well-designed, two-level mall anchored by Rich's and Parisian department stores. Brookwood Village also includes Brookstone and a number of specialty and gift shops totaling more than 70 businesses.
