Organizations & Activities
The University of Alabama has many student organizations and special activities for
International students. These include:
- International Center For Students: located in 121 B.B. Comer Hall, provides a convenient setting and
location for formal and informal meetings and social events as well as a weekly
coffee hour. The center houses the offices of the Alabama Model United Nations,
the International Honors Program, international student organizations, Alabama-Guatemala
Partners, and Tuscaloosa's International Friends.
- Conversation Partners of the UA English Language Institute: provides students with a small stipend and the opportunity to meet and speak with students from other countries who are learning English.
- Cultural & Language Exchange program of the English Language Institute: seeks to match people who are interested in each other's language or culture. After being introduced, partners are free to meet when, where, and how often they like.
- International Student Association: provides students with the opportunity to meet students from other countries and to participate in the planning and organization of social events involving students, faculty, staff, and members of the Tuscaloosa community. See bama.ua.edu/~isa/ for details.
- Alabama Model United Nations Student Organization: exists to promote international awareness at the University of Alabama through weekly meetings and participation in regional, national, and international conferences.
- International Living in Rose Towers or Language House: available for students wishing to have an international roommate or to practice a second language in a living environment. See www.sa.ua.edu/reslife for details.
- UA International Week: an annual spring celebration featuring international traditional dress fashion show, an international food festival, and international talent show, and an international display fair.
- Capstone International Coffee Hour: held every Friday in 121 B.B. Comer Hall from 11:30 to 1:00.
- Rotary Picnic: held early every fall semester at the Bloom lake house.
- Altrusa Thanksgiving Dinner: an annual event sponsored by the Tuscaloosa Chapter of Altrusa International in the week prior to Thanksgiving.
- Sakura Festival: an annual month-long series of festivities in March and April, celebrates Japanese traditional and contemporary culture.
- Tuscaloosa's International Friends: a community organization established to extend friendship to Tuscaloosa's international residents. TIF holds five annual events: Watermelon Cutting, President's Reception, Holiday Reception, Annual Pot Luck, and Spring Picnic.
