Community Service

The University of Alabama offers many opportunities for students to give back to their school and community through volunteering and community service. There is tutoring, which allows students to work with kids of all ages around the Tuscaloosa area, and senior care, in which volunteers work with the elderly through various projects such as Adopt-A-Grandparent. Three of the most popular services are Habitat for Humanity, Hunger for Homelessness, and Beat Auburn Beat Hunger. Habitat for Humanity helps to build housing for low-income families, and Hunger for Homelessness and Beat Auburn Beat Hunger join forces with the Salvation Army to combat hunger in the Tuscaloosa area.

For those who wish to start their own service projects the university offers what is called "Special Projects". Special Projects allows one to construct their own service projects through the university's Office of Volunteerism and Community Service. Students also have the chance to promote the arts by volunteering with Theater Tuscaloosa and others. For more information concerning volunteerism and community service, please contact the Office of Volunteerism and Community Service by phone at (205)-348-5327.

The MBA program has become very involved in community service activities. The students in the program volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, RISE, Boys and Girls Club of Tuscaloosa, and Adopt-A-Stream.
