Recruiting Strategies

We would like to share with you our best advice for strategies that will help us build a successful recruiting relationship with your company and our students. To maximize the effectiveness of your recruiting efforts on campus, we encourage you to employ a variety of strategies to assist students in gaining knowledge about your industry and company.

Here are some strategies that will help promote your company’s exposure on campus:

  • Sponsor events during orientation week for the first year MBA class.
  • Participate in our Executive Speaker Series.
  • Conduct leadership roundtable discussions
  • Offer career workshops
  • Schedule on-campus interviews and company presentations.
  • Meet with faculty and participate in student projects
  • Be a guest speaker for student organizations
  • Host company site visits
  • Summer Internships/Placements

#1   Give students as much information about your company culture as possible. This can be done in a variety of ways. Informational presentations and receptions are excellent opportunities for you to bring in several representatives from your company ranging from project managers, recent hires, and, upper management, and human resource managers. Set you company apart from all the others. Sending press releases about your company is another excellent way for your message to get out to our students. Simply e-mail your press release to cchamber@cba.ua.edu and it will be forwarded to the entire class.

#2 Develop a strategic yearlong plan with our Career Services Office. Setting a time line for your company will help maximize your interviewing time on campus. Utilize the summer months to develop a recruiting plan to meet your individual needs.

#3 Get students excited about your company’s positions by providing a comprehensive job description. If students have a detailed job description they will be more prepared for the interview, which will additionally make the interview selection process more effective for you. Only candidates that match the skills sets that you are seeking will sign up for the interview, allowing you to have a pool of candidates that are matched for the position.

#4 Learn more about our students and faculty by working directly with our student clubs, faculty advisors, student projects, and MBA organizations.  If you would like to sponsor an event with one of our organizations or student concentrations please contact our office and we can work together with the advisor to make the necessary arrangements

#5 Follow-up with our students.  Our experience has shown us that students value companies that have quick post interview follow up communication. This communication does not always have to be in the form of a job offer but rather acknowledging where they are in the recruiting process. No news is not generally viewed as good news; therefore we do not want you to lose an opportunity with students simply by a lack of communication.
