Jamie Ann Phillips

I was lucky with my internship. After the fall career fair, I landed a few interviews, but knew immediately that I wanted to intern with Protective Life. Therefore, after the career fair, I applied online through the Protective Life's website and wrote a well-thought out cover letter which led to three on-site interviews. After this process was over, I found out that I got the internship. I don't want this to sound so easy. It did take a lot of work in my cover letter and interviews to land this position. Once I found out that I wanted to work at Protective Life, I was willing to do whatever it took. Good luck to all of you, and start your search as soon as you can!

The career services office was instrumental in helping secure my internship.  In August, I communicated to the office that I was interested in working with a consumer products company and I immediately began networking and searching for opportunities.  Because of Manderson’s relationship with Procter and Gamble, my resume was immediately placed in the prospect file for P&G internships.  Less than one month later, I had completed all rounds of the interview process and had received my internship offer.  While my search efforts were met with great support from the career services office, it was through communication and networking that I was able to receive an internship offer at such a relatively early point in the year.

When choosing a MBA program, the deciding criteria in my mind is the Rate of Return the program will give you in achieving your life’s objectives. Simply put the program total cost to you including opportunity cost is X.  What do you have to receive in salary or happiness to maximize your investment in your MBA.  At Alabama, we work very hard on focusing on the concept of making every facet of the MBA program be relevant to making you very successful.

I teach Strategic Management which is one of the courses in the Strategy Concentration.  I work with a dedicated team of other professors in making the Strategy Concentration as up-to-date as we possibly can be when it comes to job searches and long term success.
