Student Health Center Services
The
Student
Health Center (SHC) is an outpatient clinic that serves the primary health
needs of UA students. Services include an outpatient clinic, complete laboratory
and X-ray facilities, a licensed pharmacy, women's health, health promotion, nutrition
and psychological services, and an insurance office. These services are covered
in full for all students and dependent spouses that purchase the University of
Alabama student insurance plan.
Prescriptions provided by the Student Health Center pharmacy are paid infull, after a co-pay of $10 for a generic prescription and $20 for a name brand prescription, for covered students and spouses. Prescriptions not provided by the Health Center may be purchased at any pharmacy with a $10 deductible up to a maximum of $300 per year.
The Russell Student Health Center is equipped to take care of most routine health needs of students. However, they do not provide emergency or specialized health care. Please note that during hours or holiday breaks when school is not in session, students cannot receive care at SHC.
All regularly enrolled students taking over four semester hours pay a per-semester health fee, entitling students access to the Student Health Center. Spouses of students may also pay a separate per-semester health fee in order to use the SHC for primary care. (Dependent children are not eligible to use the SHC, but may seek health care at the Capstone Medical Center.) Charges are made for pharmacy, laboratory, and other services, but they fall far below comparable charges if these services were obtained in the community.
