Fellowships and Scholarships

All admission candidates are automatically considered for all available awards, with award decisions being based on the competitiveness of each admission application. No additional forms or applications are required in order to be considered for merit-based awards. Students whose applications are received by the early admission application deadline of January 5th or no later than the February 15th priority admission deadline have the greatest chance of receiving financial assistance through the Manderson MBA program.

The following types of fellowships and scholarships are available to MBA students:

Graduate Council Fellowships

Based upon departmental nomination, the Graduate School annually awards nonrenewable Graduate Council Fellowships, which include full tuition scholarships and stipends of approximately $15,000 per academic year. Recipients for the coming academic year are selected at three times: the first week in February, the first week in March, and the first week in April. As a rule, only students who have completed no more than 60 semester hours of graduate credit are eligible, and preference is given to students just beginning their graduate programs. No service to the University is required, but recipients must carry a 12-hour load of graduate courses each semester.

Manderson School Fellowships

The Manderson Endowment supports MBA Manderson Fellowships each year for exceptionally qualified applicants. Each fellowship includes a stipend as well as a partial tuition grant.

Graduate Student/MBA Scholarships

A number of scholarships are available to MBA students each year with the amounts usually ranging from $750 - $4,000 for an academic year. Scholarships are awarded after students are accepted into the program.

National Alumni Association (NAA) Graduate Scholarship Program

To be eligible for the NAA program, applicants must hold unconditional admission to the Graduate School. Their entrance examination scores should be well above the national norm, and their collegiate grade point averages should indicate a high probability of success in graduate school. Preference is given to entering graduate students. Nominations for National Alumni Association Graduate School Scholarships are made by the dean of each academic division, at the request of the Graduate School. The NAA award is $1,000 and nonrenewable.

National Alumni Association (NAA) Graduate Fellowship Program

The funding source of this fellowship is the National Alumni Association's Collegiate License Tag Endowed Graduate Education Fund. This fellowship includes a $14,000 stipend plus full in-state tuition scholarships for one academic year. No service to the University is required. The nominations are based on the students' academic and professional records and their potential to make an outstanding contribution during their careers to the lives of the people of the state of Alabama. The academic departments make nominations of Alabama residents in early April each year for these fellowships.

Alumni Heritage Graduate Scholarship

Effective January 2001, the Heritage scholarship was established to reward the children and grandchildren of University of Alabama alumni for choosing the University for their higher education. The scholarship is a 1-year, nonrenewable award for 10% of in-state tuition. In order to qualify, students must be enrolled full-time (9 hours of graduate classes) and have a parent or grandparent who both 1) holds a degree (undergraduate, graduate, or law) from the University and 2) has been an active member of the Alumni Association for 3 of the past 5 years.
