In order to keep your laptop running smoothly, you should regularly perform certain maintenance tasks. These tasks can help keep your laptop in top shape and your critical data secure.

  1. Check Microsoft.com for updates, security patches and new plugins.
  2. Once a week, update your McAfee Virus DAT files to maintain protection from current viruses. You may Download updates directly from McAfee (Choosing the SuperDAT utility upgrades your entire scanning engine and your DAT files.)
  3. Back up your important data to a floppy disk, a super floppy, CD-RW media, zip disk, or on a network. There are plenty of choices of where to save - but none provides protection unless you take advantage of it. The technology group will be happy to assist you if you are uncertain how and where to save your data.
  4. Once a month, check your laptop manufacturer's Web site for updates and information related to your laptop. This is also the first place you should check if you experience problems with your machine or an attached device. Frequently, vendors release updated/improved versions of drivers (drivers are a pieces of software that tell Windows how to interact with a particular component such as a sound card, touch pad or modem.)
